Six schools compete in French Scrabble tournament in support of SickKids

The 3rd Annual Scrabblons pour les enfants! (Scrabble for Kids!) tournament was recently held at St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic High School in Richmond Hill. The tournament featured competitive French Scrabble play from six York Catholic high schools. Proceeds from the tournament, which totalled $1,200, went to The SickKids Foundation.

The five-hour event saw four schools take home championship and finalist cups. YCDSB congratulates:

Junior Championship Team Winners: Alyssa Benitez and Arsh Kadakia from Father Michael McGivney Catholic Academy.

Junior Finalist Team: Emily Sodhi and Alison Borch and from St. Augustine Catholic High School.

Senior Championship Team Winners: Clay Li and Sam Manshouri from Cardinal Carter Catholic High School.

Senior Finalist Team: Brittany Chang Kit and Anastasiya Dvuzhylov from St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic High School.

The Board thanks all of the teachers who contributed to this lexical fundraiser and prepared their students for the tournament, especially St. Theresa of Lisieux CHS Teacher, Mr. Gino Marcuzzi who has organized the event for the past three years.

A 'Super Weekend de Scrabble' is in the works for next spring, which will see teams of Grade 7 and 8 students from York Catholic elementary schools join in the word play.
