St. Margaret Mary student acted as YRP Chief for a Day

The York Catholic District School Board congratulates Bianca Basso, Grade 5 student at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Elementary School in Vaughan on being selected by York Regional Police to be the YRP Chief for a day.

Bianca was selected as the winner of the annual Chief-for-a-Day contest thanks to her fantastic delivery of an essay she wrote about how has policing in York Region changed with the advancement of technology and equipment over the last 25 years and what might it look like in the future.

Bianca was sworn in during a ceremony art YRP headquarters on Thursday, May 4, 2017. That day she took over for Chief Eric Jolliffe and also had a chance to tour YRP facilities, including the new training facility, Air2, the Emergency Response Unit and Canine Unit.

On Wednesday, May 17th, she presented her essay to over a thousand people at the YRP 25th Annual Police Appreciation Night.
