Christ the King school in Richmond Hill to celebrate its 25th Anniversary

Christ the King Catholic Elementary School in Richmond Hill will mark its 25th anniversary with several special events during the first week of May, which coincides with the province-wide Catholic Education Week.

On Monday, May 1, 2017 the school will hold a talent show featuring various student acts that include: dancing, singing, instrumental music and gymnastics routines. On Tuesday, May 2, 2017, each class will help to populate a school time capsule with photographs and mementos. On Wednesday, May 3, 2017, there will be a special anniversary Mass, media event and open house at the school.

Christ the King CES invites media and its entire school community, including former staff, alumni, and parents to the anniversary events taking place on Wednesday, May 3, 2017. The Mass will be held at 9:15 a.m. in the school gym, and will be officiated by Father Gerardo Bandalan of Our Lady Queen of the World Parish. Following the Mass there will be brief remarks by local dignitaries and school board officials including: Patricia Preston, Director of Education, and Vito Spatafora, Deputy Mayor of the Town of Richmond Hill. The school's MusicStar band will perform and a video montage highlighting the school's 25 year history will be screened. The school will also hold an open house in the afternoon that will include tours of the school and a refreshment area where visitors can meet, chat and reminisce.

In 1991, Christ the King Catholic Elementary School opened its doors to 442 students, which helped to alleviate the overcrowding at nearby St. Joseph CES in Richmond Hill. In 2010, YCDSB introduced the French Immersion program at Christ the King CES. Its inaugural principal was Mr. Robert Girard, and three founding staff members, Mrs. Ciccone, Miss Valent and Mr. Evans, still serve the school today and will be present at the anniversary celebrations.

Currently, the school serves over 600 students from Kindergarten to Grade 8, offers Before and After School Programs, and houses a Child Care Centre. The school has an excellent reputation for its strong academic achievement, its sports teams and its active social justice club.

"Christ the King Catholic Elementary School can attribute its achievements to its people: students, parents and staff," says School Principal, Michel Bergeron. "The culture of our school is one which gives parents confidence in our Catholic education system. I look forward to celebrating this milestone with our school community, past and present."
