The grand opening will feature a free community bbq, games, face painting, bouncy castles, a tour of the facility, and musical entertainment and performances by the Father Michael McGivney CA students.
There will be a short ribbon cutting ceremony and photo-opportunity beginning at 11 a.m. that will include remarks by: Edward Skrobal, President, FSTM; Marlene Mogado, Vice-Chair of the Board and School Trustee; Councillors Don Hamilton and Logan Kanapathi, City of Markham; and Lou Paonessa, Principal, Father Michael McGivney CA.
The sports dome is Markham’s newest indoor multi-sports facility, and is more than 70,000 square feet in size. Construction began in April 2015 and was completed in September 2015. The facility will allow students and community groups to play a wide-range of athletic activities, such as soccer, football, and lacrosse, year-round.
The Markham Sports Dome was built thanks to a partnership between the York Catholic District School Board and First Service Tennis Management, an indoor sports management group. The construction costs of the soccer dome were covered by FSTM, which will have access to the field after school hours, on weekends and on non-school days. The land was provided by the York Catholic District School Board which will have access to the facility when school is in session.
Father Michael McGivney CA is located at 5300 14th Avenue, Markham, Ontario, L3S 3K8
