Healthy Schools Certificate Awarded to St. Joan of Arc CHS

On May 17, 2017, York Region Public Health Nurse, Jenny Smith, presented St. Joan of Arc CHS in Maple with the Healthy Schools Certificate for the 2016-2017 school year.

The school was recognized for the success it met during its Mental Health Week, May 1-4.  The week featured many initiatives that promoted a healthier school environment and involved the St. Joan of Arc community working together to promote positive mental health awareness. Key highlights for this week included a motivational guest speaker, Kendra Fisher, who shared how she overcame mental health challenges when she was within reach of her dream to play hockey for Team Canada; a giant brain poster where students shared their own positive coping strategies; hand-written positive sticky notes on every student's locker on pink t-shirt day, and tranquil meditation/prayer activities in the Chapel.

Special thanks to Ms. Penney for overseeing the school's healthy school initiatives throughout this year, and to the many dedicated students, teachers, and staff involved in the Chaplaincy Council, Student Council and Empowered Student Partnerships (ESP) Committee.
