Students win first place at international DECA conference

St. Theresa of Lisieux CHS DECA club members Hayden Cheung, Jeffrey Ng and Alexia Tecsa, recently earned DECA's highest honors at this year's DECA International Career Development Conference in Anaheim, California. They earned First Place in the Buying and Merchandising Operations Research written category.  There were about 16,000 students competing for international awards and scholarships as emerging leaders and entrepreneurs from across North America and 550 from Ontario.  Hayden, Jeffrey and Alexia competed against 180 teams to garner top honours in their category which involved a 30 page research report and an oral presentation.

During the school year, DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. DECA enhances the preparation for college and careers by providing co-curricular programs that integrate into classroom instruction, apply learning, connect to business and promote competition

Approximately 120,000 of DECA's 225,000 student members take part in the organization's competitive events program, allowing them to compete for local and regional titles. The competitions are designed to simulate real-life business scenarios and test students' academic understanding and skills development. The top state and provincial winners put their talents to the test during the program's final round of competition in Anaheim with over $500,000 in scholarships and awards presented to students and teachers for their achievements.

The York Catholic District School Board congratulates Hayden, Jeffrey and Alexia on a job well done!
