Woodbridge student receives City of Vaughan Volunteer Recognition Award

The York Catholic District School Board congratulates Vanessa Giancaterini, grade 9 student at Holy Cross Catholic Academy in Woodbridge, for receiving a City of Vaughan Volunteer Recognition Award.

Vanessa is the recipient of this award for her exceptional work with the Sick Kids Foundation. One of her many notable contributions was her coordinating role in the community fundraiser "Gold Ribbons for Diana", managing all aspects of the campaign including event promotion, community engagement and fundraising. The campaign was very well received and even inspired other students to create mini campaigns. Younger students held lemonade stands raising money on weekends, grade 3's raised over $20 with Rainbow loom bracelets and a band of boys at Father Bressani CHS contributed $150 by selling CDs.

Vanessa is a passionate advocate of child health, and through her leadership the "Gold Ribbons for Diana" campaign reached a remarkable level of success, raising critical funds of $10,000 for the Sick Kids Child Oncology department.
