San Lorenzo Ruiz CES celebrates a decade of serving Markham's Wismer Commons community

San Lorenzo Ruiz Catholic Elementary School in Markham celebrated its 10th anniversary with a Mass and luncheon on Thursday, April 6, 2017. The entire school community, including current and former students, staff, parents and guardians, were invited to help celebrate the milestone occasion.

The Mass was celebrated by Father Domenic Barber at St. Patrick's Parish, which is located at 5633 Hwy 7 in Markham. Following the Mass, dignitaries and school officials brought greetings before everyone returned to the school for refreshments. Guests were also treated to a sneak peek at the school's production of Annie Junior, and had the chance to view the school's ten year anniversary collaborative art project based on the picture book, "Only One You" by Linda Kranz.

San Lorenzo Ruiz CES first opened the doors in September of 2007 under the guidance of its inaugural principal, Teresa Lombardo.  The school remains a hub of activity in Markham's Wismer Commons community and houses the YMCA Early Years Centre, as well as the San Lorenzo Ruiz Childcare Centre.

"The power of any school lies in the people inside the building," says Diane Alberico, School Principal. "San Lorenzo Ruiz is fortunate to have dedicated staff and devoted parents. The hallmark of our students is their polite, friendly demeanor and their eagerness to learn. We are truly blessed in our school community and we enjoyed celebrating this special milestone together!"
