Congratulations to St. Brother Andre CHS students, Angela Tabucan, Grade 12, and Nathan Ko, Grade 11, for each receiving the first place award in different writing contests that required contestants to write essays based on their faith and beliefs.
Both students are greatly involved in supporting Catholic initiatives in the St. Brother Andre community. Angela is the president of the Faith Development Council, and Nathan is an executive member of the same council and has been an altar server for school Masses for the last three years.
Angela won the 2015 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity contest, sponsored by the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement-Graymoore and The Catholic Register newspaper. She wrote an article about Jesus' meeting with the Samaritan woman at the well, and its significance about the value of Christian unity. The article was published in the Catholic Register. Angela won an iPad for her winning article.
Nathan won the 2015 Father Ted Colleton Scholarship, which serves to promote pro-life issues among young people. His essay was on how the fable the Emperor's New Clothes applies to the abortion debate in society. The contest was sponsored by the Interim newspaper, and Nathan was awarded $1,500.
Congratulations to both students!
