March is National Engineering Month in Ontario. To celebrate engineering excellence, the Professional Engineers of Ontario hold an annual Design Challenge for Grade 5 students using LEGO Blocks, as well as Grade 6 students using the K’NEX System. This year the 12th Annual Design Challenge took place at Alexander Mackenzie High School on Saturday, March 7, 2015. Richmond Hill Mayor David Barrow was in attendance.
Students were challenged to construct bridges with structural integrity, using supplied weighed LEGO and K’NEX material, in just one hour. Teams were judged on a variety of factors including: team cooperation, bridge aesthetics, and best weight-bearing bridge.
Grade 5 and 6 PACE students from St. Charles Garnier Catholic Elementary School in Richmond Hill participated with great enthusiasm. The school is pleased to announced that the Grade 5 “Team Gravity” won second place at the competition, out of the 28 schools that participated. Members of the winning team include: Jonathan C., Arthur G., and Cameron P. Congratulations!
