Carnival is a festive season that is traditionally held in the weeks or days immediately preceding the liturgical season of Lent.
St. Mary of the Angels was one of many schools that celebrated Carnival this February. The Woodbridge school’s Carnival celebration incorporated friendship and anti-bullying themes, while encouraging all staff and students to dialogue in French.
A bilingual kick-off assembly was held to highlight the diversity of its school community and kick off the friendship events. Canadian author, Eric Walters, visited the school and spoke to students about his novels, which are based on the acts of many everyday heroes. ‘Francograms’ or snapshots of students practicing their French were posted around the school, and students teamed up to create "Les Becs Magiques" and shared friendship messages.
The organization HOZA! delivered a special presentation about personal growth and friendship to the school community. To wrap up the week, Father Peter shared personal stories about his missionary work, and the school held a liturgy that inspired students to follow in Jesus' footsteps.
