Keswick student earns $100K Loran Scholarship

The York Catholic District School Board congratulates Nicole Flanagan, Grade 12 student at Our Lady of The Lake Catholic College School in Keswick for earning the Loran Scholarship.

The Loran Scholars Foundation identifies and supports exemplary young Canadians who demonstrate character, service and leadership. Founded in 1988, the Loran Scholars Foundation was the first national organization in Canada to grant scholarships based on a mix of academic achievement, extracurricular activity and leadership potential.

As a Loran Scholar, Nicole will receive a renewable undergraduate award valued at up to $100,000, including mentorship and a summer program. She will also join an extensive network of peers and mentors who live the values of character, service and leadership. Nicole plans to use this scholarship to study bio-medical engineering at university next year.

The Loran Scholar selection process is the most rigorous of any scholarship program in Canada. To earn the scholarship, Nicole submitted a series of written applications and participated in several interviews. Nicole was supported by her Guidance Councillor, Jessica Phillips, during the application process.

“The Our Lady of the Lake school community is proud of Nicole’s success,” said Principal Fran Fraser. “We whole-heartedly congratulate her and wish her God’s blessing in all of her future endeavours.”
