Students attend POWERful Conference at the CEC

On February 11, 2016, select students from all York Catholic high schools attended a Power Conference at the Board's Catholic Education Centre that focused on the dangers of drug use and substance abuse. Many of the students who attended are members of their school's Ontario Students Against Impaired Driving or Drug Awareness Week committees.

The keynote speaker for the conference was Rick Osborne from the charitable organization, Truth for Teens. He spoke to students about the ups and downs of his life, which involved abuse, gangs, drugs, criminal activity, time in jail, and overcoming his addictions to lead a meaningful and fulfilling life.

Many local organizations also staffed information displays and assisted with breakout groups so students could learn about the services and resources they offer.

Thanks to the Sacred Heart OSAID/DAW Council for organizing this year's event.
