St. Joan of Arc students celebrate bocce win

Congratulations to the St. Joan of Arc Bocce Team which won a recent YCDSB Youth Bocce Competition that was held on January 28th at the Maple Community Centre. The exceptional students on the St. Joan of Arc team scored the most points and celebrated their victory.

The competition was organized by the Board’s Student Services Department and approximately eight teams from schools throughout the Board competed. This was one of many bocce events for exceptional students that the Board supports.

The York Catholic District School Board is a proud partner of the upcoming 2015 International Special Olympics Bocce Tournament that will take place in York Region later this spring. The tournament will feature 24 teams from 8 different countries. During a recent media launch for the tournament at Seneca College, Elizabeth Crowe, YCDSB Chair, announced that all of York Catholic’s exceptional students are invited to enter the 2015 International Special Olympics Bocce Tournament Logo Competition. The winning logo will be used throughout the upcoming tournament and on the T-shirts for the tournament’s volunteers.  Logo submissions should be sent to Angela.Berry@ycdsb.ca by March 1st, 2015.

In December, Youth Bocce Special Olympics held its annual banquet to honour its 2014 Special Youth Bocce Champions. Bursaries were provided to the following York Catholic students who were honoured at the event:

  • Lauro Ebora of  Father Michael McGivney CHS in Markham
  • David Ristic of Sacred Heart CHS in Newmarket
  • Sonia Maddalena of St. Joan of Arc CHS in Maple
  • Jessica Mak of St. Robert CHS in Thornhill
  • Douglas Tam of St. Brother Andre CHS in Markham
  • Vanessa Mills of St. Theresa of Lisieux CHS in Richmond Hill
