New immigrant and refugee families can now register their children for school at Newcomer Reception Centres

YCDSB invites newcomers to register or be assessed for school at multilingual Welcome Centres

Beginning today, February 10, 2016, families who are new to Canada can visit a Newcomer Reception Centre in Markham or Richmond Hill, to register their children in a York Catholic elementary school or to have their children assessed to be placed in the appropriate grade in a York Catholic secondary school.

The Newcomer Reception Centres are staffed by multilingual settlement workers, in partnership with not-for-profit organizations, Job Skills, and Catholic Community Services of York Region, which are the lead-organization for the Markham and Richmond Hill centres, respectively.

The Markham Newcomer Reception Centre is located at 8400 Woodbine Avenue, Suites 102-103, near the intersection of Highway 7 and Woodbine Avenue. Parents are encouraged to call it at: 289-846-3645 or email it at: mailto:apptwc@ycdsb.cato book an appointment.

The Richmond Hill Newcomer Reception Centre is located in the South Hill Shopping Centre at 9325 Yonge Street, near the intersection of Yonge Street and 16th Avenue. Parents are encouraged to call it at: 289-842-3124 or email it at: mailto:apptwc@ycdsb.ca to book an appointment.

The York Catholic District School Board has Catholic schools in each of York Region's nine municipalities: Aurora, East Gwillimbury, Georgina, Markham, Newmarket, Richmond Hill, Vaughan, Whitchurch-Stouffville, and the Township of King. It offers a publicly-funded education emphasizing Catholic values to students in Junior Kindergarten through to Grade 12. It also offers programs for adults, including English as a Second Language (ESL) courses, through its Adult and Continuing Education Department.
