International Special Olympics Bocce Tournament Media Launch

On February 6, Chair of the Board, Elizabeth Crowe and Director of Education, Patricia Preston joined Special Olympics Ontario, Youth Bocce Canada, and Seneca College to officially launch the International Special Olympics Bocce Tournament, which will be held in York Region this Spring. Twenty-four teams, representing 8 different countries will be participating in the tournament.

It is through this world class event that the York Catholic District School Board is able to showcase the remarkable achievements of students with special needs. We have seen great evidence of Youth Bocce Canada’s Mission and Vision in action – through Bocce, our students are given the opportunity to enhance both their social and physical skills, and increase their self-confidence. Bocce is an inclusive sport that includes a variety of abilities and we are proud that are students are given this opportunity, to compete to the best of their ability, in an international sport.

Thank you to the many volunteers, coaches, parents, family members, teachers, sponsors, and many others, who have worked so hard to advocate for Special Olympics Bocce.

A special thank you YCDSB’s former Director of Education, Susan La Rosa, the Chair of the Tournament Planning Committee, whose support and advocacy for this important initiative, has left a lasting legacy at York Catholic.

We will be whole-heartily cheering on the two York Catholic teams at this year’s tournament!
