In December, the Board’s International Languages schools hosted, in collaboration with Centro Scuola e Cultura Italiana/Columbus Centre, the Italian music group, Parafonè.
The Calabria-based musical act performed at St. Peter, St. Cecilia, St. Padre Pio, and St. Margaret Mary schools. It also played at Father Bressani Catholic High School where students from St. Gabriel the Archangel, and St. Catherine of Siena were in attendance.
The performances were a mix of musical concerts and Italian lessons. Parafonè played traditional folk music from Calabria with a modern twist. The group enchanted the students with the sounds of both ancient and modern instruments. Parafonè sang traditional songs and the student audience enjoyed learning about the instruments, watching the ‘Tarantella’ dance, and learning more about Italian culture.
