New French Immersion program to be added in Stouffville for 2016-17
The York Catholic District School Board offers the French Immersion program to students beginning in Grade 1, at 14 Catholic schools throughout York Region. This number will increase to 15 in September 2016 when St. Mark Catholic Elementary School in the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville will begin to offer the French Immersion program.
The French Immersion program provides non-francophone children with a high degree of proficiency in the French language. Although the curriculum is the same as in the English language program, the language of instruction for most subjects is in French in the primary grades.
Students enrolled in the French Immersion program may qualify for bus transportation. Children born in 2010 who will begin Grade 1 in September 2016 are eligible to apply.
The online application process for each French Immersion school site is now open, but will close on February 3, 2016. Following the application process, and depending on the number of applicants, a lottery process may be conducted.
